Sundays Thought - Nick of Time

"You can rest assured that if you devote your time and attention to the highest advantage of others, the Universe will support you, always in the nick of time."
R Buckminister Fuller

I like this quote because Buckminister Fuller wrote it not from a traditional religious position but a transcendentalists point of view.

(His other quotes are worth looking up)

Sundays Thought - The Lever

- Archimedes (287-212 BC)

You are the fulcrum, your relationships are the lever and the object is your dream or goal.  More relationships (not just friends) means more leverage.

Sunday Thought - Reaping What you Sow

He which soweth sparingly
shall reap also sparingly;and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully

- 2 Courinthians 9:6

Every friend I make and help I hope I am sowing a seed, but I am a gardener not a farmer, the joy is in the tending not the harvest.

Sunday Thought - Metcalf's Law

The value of a network grows in proportion to the square of the number of users - Metcalf's Law

The average person knows at least 250 people.  Then, each of these 250 people know another 250 people.  So instantly you have access to 62,500 people.[1]

Go on, call someone this week you haven't been in touch with for a while, you won't regret it

Sunday Thought - You decide the outcome

One ship sails East,
And another West,
By the self-same winds that blow,
Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.

(Thanks Jim for the inspiration)

Sunday Thought - Until one is committed...

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back-- Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now." - Goethe

I find this quote inspiring every time I read it. I also believe that the Providence it refers to directly relates to the network of friends, family, associates, colleagues, contacts, etc that you have built up.

You can get more information on Goethe from The Goethe Society

Sundays Thought - Helping Hand

"If you want to make a friend, let someone do you a favor."

- Ben Franklin

So often in business and particularly in networking we are wondering how the other guy can help us. I suggest when you are out with a client or business acquaintance again that you actively search for a way you can help them either on the spot or very soon after. And don't bother to keep score, if it helped they'll remember.

Sundays Thought - A Small Well of Quotes

Sunday I usually give you a quote I have picked up on relationships, business or something I thought would interest. Today I thought I'd give you a source, a well, of quotes instead.

Check out Woopidoo for some great little pearls of wisdom from a variety of people all relating to business.

I particularly like it's simple design of the site and of course it has a page dedicated to quotes on Business Relationships

Sundays Thought - You need one

"Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it family: Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one."

- Jane Howard

Sundays Thought - Every ones a teacher

" Everyman I meet is my superior in some way. In that, I learn of him"
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

On reading this for the first time I was at once amused and shocked at it's wisdom. It is so easy to close our selves to new ideas or to think we know better, especially when the source or teacher is unfamiliar.

Sundays Thought - No Self Made Man

There is no such thing as a "self made" man. We are made up of thousands of others. Everyone who has ever done a kind deed for , spoken one word of encouragement to us, has entered into the make up of our character and of our thoughts, as well as our success.

- George Burton Adams

Sundays Thought - Community

"Build a little community of those you love and who love you"

- Mitch Albom
