Sunday Thought - Metcalf's Law

The value of a network grows in proportion to the square of the number of users - Metcalf's Law

The average person knows at least 250 people.  Then, each of these 250 people know another 250 people.  So instantly you have access to 62,500 people.[1]

Go on, call someone this week you haven't been in touch with for a while, you won't regret it

That’s the quantitative approach and there’s no denying its validity. Now for really effective networking I suggest you add a qualitative element, based on the golden rule of reciprocity:

“I’ll do this for you now, without expecting anything immediately in return and perhaps without even knowing you, confident that down the road you or someone else will return the favour”

Thanks for the comment Frank and I agree (having posted on reciprocity previously)

I also think that the nature of the connect: virtual, office, family, etc, makes a huge difference to the Quality measure. Something I am reading up on and will post on soon
